General Manager – Shemu PLC Full Time

Shemu Group is a conglomerate of companies composed of Shemu PLC, Asveza Ethiopia Retailing Share Company, S-boom Agro-Processing and other functional companies with a fast growth track record of accomplishment of accomplishment. The Companies in the group engaged in manufacturing (liquid soap, bar soap, Edible oil and shortening products), retail service-providing, printing, trading and engineering. Based on this, our sister Company, Seka Agro-Processing PLC, want to hire competent, energetic, enthusiastic and capable applicants for the post we have.

Major responsibilities 

As a visionary leader, the General Manager encourage enthusiasm and a sense of belonging among the staff members and help develop a team spirit that keeps everyone working towards the company’s identified goals. She/he is primarily responsible for planning, developing and implementing policies and practices of the company’s operation to ensure the attainment of goals and profitable operations.

Detail responsibilities of the job include: 

• Analyzing existing operations, staff, and financial documents and recommending improvements.
• Planning finances and production to maintain farm progress against budget parameters
• Preparing plans and schedules for planting, harvesting, and ensuring staff understands expectations.
• Visiting the different divisions to inspect crops, livestock, and perform tests on soil and water.
• Ensuring seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other supplies regularly restocked.
• Scheduling repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery.
• Understanding the implications of the weather and make contingency plans
• Ensuring all staff adheres to health and safety regulations.
• Planning activities for trainee staff, mentoring and monitoring them
• Ensuring that farm activities comply with government regulations
• Keeping financial records up to date
• Assisting with the recruitment and training of new staff members.
• Collaborating with senior staff to prepare budgets and financial reports.
• Building professional networks and keeping abreast of developments in agricultural science.

Education

• Master of Science Degree in horticulture, plants science, agricultural economics, agriculture Science, or other relevant subjects

Experience:

• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in horticulture crops value chains, agricultural policy, and regulatory framework in Ethiopia in fruit and coffee sub-sector.

Knowledge of:

• Extensive experience in a farming more specifically in managing fruits and coffee
• Management experience would be a plus.
